Why doctor prescribe antibiotics for viral infection instead of antiviral drugs?

Submitted by: Administrator
generally doctors prescribe antibiotics with out any test...

because most infections may cured by antibiotics,of course
antibiotics are not effective on viral infections...anti
viral drugs are narrow in spectrum and have limited efficacy
and side effects are more compared to antibiotics, for
prevention of further growth they immediatly prescribe
antibiotics.........

after testing if it is viral infection they will
automatically prescribe antiviral drugs...........

Antiviral drugs are a class of medication used specifically for treating viral infections. Like antibiotics for bacteria, specific antivirals are used for specific viruses. Unlike most antibiotics, antiviral drugs do not destroy their target pathogen; instead they inhibit their development.
Like antibiotics, specific antivirals are used for specific viruses.
Antiviral drugs are one class of antimicrobials, a larger group which also includes antibiotics, anti-fungal and anti-parasitic drugs.
They are relatively harmless to the host, and therefore can be used to treat infections.
