Do's and Don'ts at Job Interviews

Guidelines For Do’s And Don’ts Of  Job Interviews

There are several aspects that an interviewee should keep in mind for having a successful job interview. Needless to say that like everything else in life, there are several do’s and dont’s that a person undergoing a job interview should remember.
This article provides a brief list of the job interviews Do’s and Don’ts for your upcoming interview.

Things To Do In An Interview

Know About Your Profile:
One of the first do’s of a job interview is to know everything about the job that you are looking for what this job is all about. One should first differentiate between job skills and the job description itself. One may have the skill sets to perform various jobs duties pertaining to various positions. Meaning, each position has a different life of itself and it is necessary for a person to be comfortable with the responsibilities and other collateral that come with a position.

Rehearse The Interview:
The truth be said, there are several staple questions that an interviewer asks to a prospective employee. These questions are dependent on the position that you are looking at. Therefore, try to get a hold of the related questions that are generally asked during the said job interview. In this case, you might come across at best as someone who has done his homework properly and at worst as a person who goes into too much of details.

Dress The Part:
The attire is one of the most important parts of your professional life, unless and until you gain that ‘name and fame’ that just your name is enough to open the doors for new opportunities. Therefore, make sure that you dress and look perfectly for the job that you have applied for. In any case, be sure that you are dressed in comfortable formals and are clean shaven and presentable enough to handle your first interaction with a company that you wish to work for.

Create An Impression:
When attending an interview, speak to everyone in the office with the same respect and comfort levels that you would show to the interviewer. Make sure that you greet the receptionist or the hospitality manager who introduces you into the company.

Things Not To Do In An Interview

Apart from the do’s, there are several don’ts that should be adhered in the job interview.
Here are some don’t s that one should keep in mind while going through the job interview.

Do Not Over Rehearse:
Be yourself and do not over-rehearse and do not be too nervous during the interview. The Human Resource department exists to differentiate between the professionals who will be valuable to the company and those who are not. Therefore, the Human Resource department is versatile in finding the correct resource for the company. If you come too prepared or are a bag of nerves during the interview, the interviewer may think you are a person who tries too hard. Therefore, the best bet is to be yourself.

Do Not Act Over Smart:
With confidence comes obnoxiousness, but the same obnoxiousness can have you lose the said job even before you get it. Make sure that you do not come across as an obnoxious wannabe who believes he or she will flit through the job interview to the job position, it will not happen.

Do Not Bring Up Personal Issues:
It is very wrong for you to bring up personal issues pertaining to any matter. In fact, if you have dropped out of college and not completed your education and if you have left the previous company under dubious circumstances, these questions can be answered with a subtle ‘for personal reasons’, better than going into a litany of sorts about why you have left the  company or why you did not complete your education.
