Do You Consider Yourself Successful?

Tips For Answering Interview Question "Do You Consider Yourself Successful?"

An Overview:

This is yet another important and most frequently asked career interview question at the time of a job interview. Though, it sounds like a general question wherein you can enumerate your professional achievements and escape unhurt but let me tell you, it is a double edged sword. It is not a question that can be ignored or looked in professional light only. An interviewer not only tries to gauge your professional achievements till date but he also tries to ascertain your personal life as well by darting such interview questions about your career.

Career Job Interview Questions And Answers

Well, it is absolutely true. An interviewer tries to touch-base two important aspects of an interviewee.

Successful Career And Successful Professional Life:

Direct questions that can be asked are:
◆ Do you consider yourself successful?
◆ Are you successful manager (or professional)?
◆ How successful are you in your career till now?
◆ Do you like your career and the field you work in?
◆ Why did you choose this career?
If you have already taken career stock and have done some self-assessment, you should have an answer to yourself.
As for answering the interviewer, let us understand what s/he wants.
An interviewer looks forward to listen to your professional achievements to learn more about you. Are you a performer and success-oriented. You may highlight track record up till now. You may also talk/showcase the skills and expertise you may have acquired while working at previous organizations.
Further, you may mention outstanding achievements/results in the past organizations where you have worked. By doing so, an interviewer will realize that you are focused about your career and has made sincere efforts to attain goals in the respective field. It will also highlight the fact that you are self-driven, self-aware and has a certain amount of aggression toward achieving results – A result oriented fellow.

Note:

An individual should try to highlight how he utilized his learning and expertise to deliver results no matter how small they may appear to be.
The interviewer might ask indirect questions to learn more about your view of your career success up to date, ones such questions are these career related interview questions:

What is your greatest professional Achievement?
What Is Your Greatest career Accomplishment?
What Is Your Goal And Your Career Objective?
What Are Your Career Goals And How do you plan to achieve these goals?

Successful Personal Life:

Do you succeed in balancing your career and personal life?
No employer considers professional life in isolation. It is more so ever important in the case of interviews. Perhaps, most of the interviewers look at a holistic growth pattern of interviewees. The reason behind this is that even if an individual is extremely successful in professional life; he may not be so in his personal life. He may be leading an unbalanced life which is highly skewed towards his professional endeavors. Thus, sooner or later, an individual may suffer because of the unbalanced life pattern.
Many a times, interviewers ask pin-pointed questions about family in order to gauge this aspect. One such question can be – How do you balance personal life and career?

Note:

Even if you have a turbulent family life, you may still be able to win the interest of the interviewer if you elaborate upon it in a way that showcases how your positive outlook has dealt with the issues in a way that has produced desired results.
