An Overview:


During an interview the interviewer might ask questions about your past performance. The interviewer would like you to tell about any suggestion you have made – Something that made the difference.. when you came with a different/unique approach to a problem. This questions asked by interviewers to probe an interesting insight about the candidate – How initiator is s/he? Can he influence others in his approach?
The interviewer would like to know whether the interviewee is positive about his work and enthusiastic generally – How resourceful and proactive in his approach is s/he?

How Should You Answer Question About Initiative Approach?


Your answer must show that you often make suggestions and recommendations when necessary – You are not fazed by difficulties, setbacks or tough challenges. You actually display a flexible/proactive approach to your work for achieving objectives – Show them that you regularly use own initiative to resolve problems.

How To Handle This Query?


The best way is to provide an example of when you came up with a different approach to an issue – It might be any work situation or a real problem. Tell a success story. Express how your solution made the difference.

Good Answer:


A good practice is to divide this answer into 3-5 fragments:
☛ What suggestions did you make to solve a problem?
☛ How your superiors and co-workers got it?
☛ Did you used your influential skills?
☛ Which ideas (that you raised) were put into practice?
☛ What were the outcomes? – describe the good results and the lesson learned.
