A candidate appearing for an examination has to secure 40% marks to pass paper I. But he secured only 40 marks and failed by 20 marks. What is the maximum mark for paper I?

secured marks => 40% of x= 40/100 of x=2x/5
To pass an exam he has to score =fail marks+20
=40+20=60
2x/5=60
x=150
maximum marks for paper I is =150
