When we get Moisture content by KF higher than by LOD, what does this indicate?
Submitted by: AdministratorKF titration is the most accurate method in analysing
moisture content. But it is coastlier and maintaince is too
high. So in analysis of moisture content an alternative
experiment is Loss on Drying(LOD), which gives approximate
moisture value present in the given substance.

KF only indicate water present in the substance
LOD detect water and low boiling subsatnce.

The sample content acetone than the moisture is increased automatically. In that case only moisture will get more than LOD. Do the moisture of compound in pyridine instead of methanol

LOD is a measure of total of moisture and residual solvents, and KF only measure water. LOD should be always higher than KF (if instrument and analytical hand are accurate). Now in case when KF is higher than LOD there should be hydrated crystalline material which upon hearing do not allow to remove water from material, and KF is very strong that it will neutralise all the water molecules in material.
