What is lay figure?
Submitted by: MuhammadAjointed wooden figure, either quite small or life-size, that may be used as a substitute for the sitter. The fIgure is so made that the limbs can only be moved in the same way as an actual human fIgure. Popular 18th-century portrait-painters used them dressed in the clothes the sitter demanded and thus saved the clients many arduous hours sitting still.
